About Me
Like many fellow crafters, my creative journey started during the first lockdown in 2020, here in Lancashire
I was introduced to Powertex, a fabric hardening medium by a friend a few months previously and purchased my first bottle. Having little time to experiment due to a busy lifestyle (four children, job, chickens, pony, dog, etc) it sat, unopened on a shelf. It was only when our lives came to a grinding halt due to the pandemic that I found myself with an excess of ‘me’ time. My obsession was born and the creative creature within emerged!
YouTube became my best friend and I immersed myself in tutorials, researching Powertex and another similar product, Paverpol.
I was keen on repurposing materials, so used what I had available and created my first sculpture.
Fast forward a year, (and 8 fabric sculptures later) I wanted to sculpt my own heads for my figures, so I ventured into the world of clay! I have a background in fashion and textiles, and although I had some experience with illustrating a human being, I had never attempted to sculpt anything resembling one (years of Playdough with the offspring doesn’t count) My first attempts were not pretty, most of them had faces only a mother would love but, I persevered and now have a large supply of little fairy heads on sticks, watching my every move.
I received a lot of interest in my custom heads from fellow crafters (most of them tired of using the same generic heads available to buy) so I made moulds from my masters and produced plaster ones with character! It amazes me that some of my little creations are being used by fellow craft enthusiasts in countries such as Canada, Denmark, USA and France!
The opening up of this whole new creative world inspired me to try other crafts, with varying degrees of success, I will add. I discovered that I cannot knit or crochet (two inch scarf anyone?) felting and oil painting are no-go’s, but I can use alcohol inks and acrylics, make moulds, operate a cutting machine, sublimation printer and mug press, work with resin, Jesmonite and concrete (separately of course, although……) and give almost any unwanted object a new purpose!
So here we are, two years later, I have my own website, a lot of new friends from craft pages, lovely customers (I am eternally grateful for your support) and a chance to share my passion for sculpting with you all.
For fear of this sounding like an Oscar Award speech, I will refrain from thanking my technical director (unpaid, overworked husband) for his patience with my fear of technology and for producing this website, my family (my biggest fans who don’t bat an eyelid when they have to eat at the coffee table as the kitchen and dining tables are both covered in Powertex/resin/paint or those who get presented with a sculpture, whether they want one or not, but still appear grateful) and all those who have shown their support with words of encouragement, either through social media or personally.
